THe commodification of the worker in Sci-fi
An exploration of sci-fi’s critique of labor through Alex Rivera’s Sleep Dealer and David Cronenberg’s Videodrome. Since Sci-Fi is a projection and reflection of today’s problems, how does the commodification of the worker function as a representation of capitalism today?
If we analyze these films, we can find that sci-fi narratives depict the realities of capitalist production through the labor experience which is divided into three major stages: exploitation, commodification, and consumption.
